Nashi “Chojuro”
(Pyrus piryfolia)
The Nashi is an Asian pear tree (cousin of our common pear tree) which is really interesting for its high productivity and ease of cultivation (less susceptible to diseases than our common pear varieties). The fruits, round like an apple, are generally crunchy with a flavor similar to that of a pear but still very different. To discover!
The Chojuro variety (1980) offers "bronze" type fruits (color of the epidermis), very juicy and refreshing, with white, crunchy, very sweet and fragrant flesh with musky notes.
Fruit ripens around mid-September.
Will require the presence of another variety of nashi (see Shinseïki) or a pear tree (william, etc.) to bear fruit.
1-year-old scions sold bare-root (collection from December to the end of February).
Plants grafted onto Pyrus calleryana (very resistant and productive / adult height 5m and more).
Nashi “Chojuro”
