Apple tree "Reinette d'Armorique"
(Malus domestica)
- Synonyms : Broom apple, Reinette de Bretagne.
- Origin : Brittany - mainly Rennes, Vitré and La Guerche.
- History : It dates back to the Middle Ages.
- Fruit Description : The medium-sized fruit is round, yellow with a hint of carmine red, with cork and brown lenticels. The yellow, fine, tangy flesh is very fragrant (even more so at the end of the season).
- Use : Very good eating, baking or cooking apple.
- Harvest : From the beginning of November.
- Consumption : From February to June.
- Pollination : Partially self-fertile, cross-pollination recommended.
- Disease resistance : Hardy variety with low susceptibility.
- Available rootstocks :
- M106 : For outdoor apple trees. Adapts to almost all soils and is particularly well-suited to Brittany. Resists root asphyxiation very well and attracts very little woolly aphids. Good rooting, which gives it good resistance to vole attacks.
Fruiting fairly quickly in 3-4 years.
Lifespan: 60 years and over.
- M26 : For trained or low-stem apple trees, ideal for small city gardens. Small apple tree (3m) with very rapid fruiting (2-3 years). Not suitable as a tree for outdoor use due to its weak root system (but much better than M9) unless it is well supported for life.
Lifespan 40 years and more.
