Autumn chalef with red fruits (selected)
(Elaeagnus umbellata)
- Description : This large, very fast-growing shrub is deciduous, hardy, problem-free, and highly productive. Its silvery-backed foliage is resistant to sea spray. Spring flowering is rather discreet and deliciously fragrant, fragrant, and very melliferous. In the fall, it offers an abundant harvest of small, shiny, red berries, a little drying on the tongue but with a fruity flavor reminiscent of cherries. The fruit has a high nutritional value and is ideal for making jams/jellies. Very hardy, the autumn chalef grows in all soils, even poor and dry. Perfect as a fruit hedge, it provides shelter and food for birds while being an excellent nitrogen fixer.
