Nashi “Shinseiki”
(Pyrus piryfolia)
The Nashi is an Asian pear tree (cousin of our common pear tree) which is really interesting for its high productivity and ease of cultivation (less susceptible to diseases than our common pear varieties). The fruits, round like an apple, are generally crunchy with a flavor similar to that of a pear but still very different. To discover!
The Shinseiki variety is THE most widespread and well-known variety in France.
Perfectly self-fertile, this variety is also very productive! Its "yellow" fruits (color of the skin) are very juicy and refreshing. The white flesh is crunchy, very sweet and delicately flavored.
Fruit ripens from mid-August (eat well ripened otherwise it will be a bit bland)
Self-fertile (fruits alone) and excellent pollinator for other varieties (see Chojuro).
1-year-old scions sold bare-root (collection from December to the end of February).
Plants grafted onto Pyrus calleryana (very resistant and productive / adult height 5m and more).
Nashi “Shinseiki”
